Patriots Place WR Malcolm Mitchell On Injured Reserve, Promote OL Ted Karras

Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Patriots are WR Malcolm Mitchell on injured reserve Thursday.

  • Tom Curran adds that the Patriots are promoting OL Ted Karras to their active roster.
  • According to Mike Reiss, the Patriots signed DB Jomal Wiltz to their practice squad.

This will cost Mitchell at least the first eight weeks of the season, but he could be a candidate to return for the second half.

Mitchell, 24, was taken in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft. He signed a four-year, $2.917 million contract that included a $577,992 signing bonus with the Patriots and stands to make a base salary of $540,000 for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Mitchell appeared in 14 games for the Patriots and caught 32 passes for 401 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
