Patriots Plan To Place 2nd Round Tender On QB Brian Hoyer?

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston writes that the Patriots are expected to place “at least at the second-round level” on QB Brian Hoyer “to protect their “asset” at the game’s most important position.”

New England took Ryan Mallett during the third-round last year so they have a quarterback of the future already in place but placing a second-round tender on Hoyer will help to ensure that they’ll recoup adequate value if someone’s willing to offer him a sizable contract in the coming months. The Patriots could shop him around in the time being to see if anyone’s willing to give up draft picks in return for Hoyer.

This seems like the right decision for the Patriots but it will be interesting to see what kind of interest Hoyer draws.
