Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo Not Expected To Be Active For Tonight’s Game

Mike Reiss of ESPN reports that the Patriots are not expected to have QB Jimmy Garoppolo in uniform for tonight’s game.

Courtney Fallon reports that the Patriots will start Jacoby Brissett against the Texans tonight with Jimmy Garoppolo serving as the team’s backup.

The Patriots officially listed QB Jimmy Garoppolo as “doubtful” for Week 3’s game against the Texans on Thursday, according to Field Yates.

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports that the Patriots are “putting pressure” on QB Jimmy Garoppolo (AC sprain) to return as quickly as possible.

In fact, Howe writes that the team is reminding Garoppolo that Tom Brady played through a similar injury at multiple times throughout his career.

Howe also mentions that Garoppolo is still struggling to lift his right arm, making his return for Thursday’s game unrealistic.

According to Ed Werder of ESPN, the Patriots still believe there’s a chance QB Jimmy Garoppolo can tolerate pain of AC joint sprain and start against the Texans in Week 3.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo won’t start Thursday’s game after he suffered an AC joint sprain on Sunday.

  • However, Rapoport says that there is hope Garoppolo will be back for the Week 4 game.
  • Adam Schefter reports that the Patriots still haven’t ruled out the possibility that Garoppolo could play in their Week 3 game this Thursday. Although Schefter admits it’s a “longshot” right now.

Tom Curren of CSN New England reports that it’s still possible Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo could still play in the team’s Week 4 game, depending on how inflamed his shoulder is and his level of pain tolerance.

Garoppolo is dealing with an AC joint sprain, which can be treated with an injection of painkillers, so there’s at least he a chance he could play in their final game without Tom Brady.

Curran admits that there’s no guarantee Garoppolo will be able to play through the injury, but there’s at least a shot.

Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo suffered what appears to be a shoulder injury after taking a big hit and was replaced by rookie QB Jacoby Brissett.

David Chao mentions that from video it appears as though Garoppolo sustained an AC joint sprain. Chao adds that because it’s to his throwing shoulder, it could be tough for him to return to today’s game.

Garoppolo, 24, is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $3,483,898 rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $686,718 for the 2016 season.

Entering today’s game, Garoppolo had completed 24 of 33 passing attempts for 264 yards and one touchdown.
