Patriots Sign RB James White To Three-Year, $12M Extension

Adam Schefter reports that the Patriots and RB James White have agreed to a three-year extension.

  • According to Ian Rapoport, White receives a three-year, $12 million extension that includes $4.69 million guaranteed and can max out at $15 million in total.

White scored the game-winning touchdown in the Patriots’ 34-28 overtime win over the Falcons in the Super Bowl and appears to be part of their plans moving forward.

New England has been aggressive in addressing the running back position this offseason, signing Rex Burkhead in free agency and signing Bills restricted free agent Mike Gillislee to an offer sheet today.

Recent reports mentioned that there were still interested in retaining LeGarrette Blount, but have to wonder what these moves mean for his future with the team.

White, 25, is a former fourth-round pick by the Patriots in the 2014 NFL Draft. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $2,617,088 rookie contract and will now be signed through the 2020 season.

In 2016, White appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots and recorded 39 carries for 166 rushing yards (4.3 YPC), while also bringing in 60 receptions for 551 yards receiving and five touchdowns. Pro Football Focus graded him as the No. 29 overall running back out of 62 qualifying players.
