Patriots Re-Sign WR Greg Orton, Release WR Tyler McDonald

The Patriots announced that they have re-signed WR Greg Orton and release WR Tyler McDonald on Wednesday.

Orton, 27, signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue back in 2009. He has bounced around with a number of teams since then including the Broncos, Omaha Nighthawks, Arizona Rattlers and the Spokane Shock. Orton has yet to appear in an NFL game.

New England just signed McDonald to a contract last Friday, but they have so much depth at receiver right now that it was hard to imagine him carving out a role on the team’s 53-man roster.

At South Carolina State, McDonald caught 159 receptions for 2,389 yards receiving.
