Patriots Re-Signing FB James Develin To Two-Year Deal

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald is reporting that the Patriots and FB James Develin have agreed to a two-year contract after making “significant progress” on Friday.

A few days ago, Jason La Canfora mentioned that he “fully expect[ed]” the Patriots to re-sign Develin within the next few days, so this doesn’t come as a complete surprise.

Develin, 28, wound up signing on with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent out of Brown back in 2010. He spent just over two years in Cincinnati before he was waived at the start of the 2012 season.

The Patriots later signed him to their practice squad and have brought him back on one-year deals the past few years.

In 2016, Develin appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots and caught three passes for 18 yards receiving. He also contributed 35 kick return yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 2 fullback out of 17 qualifying players.
