Patriots Activate RB LeGarrette Blount, Waive LB Eric Martin

Update:

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Patriots have officially activated RB LeGarrette Blount from the reserve/suspended list and placed LB Eric Martin on waivers in a subsequent move.

Blount will be available for the Patriots Week 2 match up.

Martin, 24, originally signed on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2013. He was later claimed off of waivers by the Browns before signing a future/reserve deal with the Patriots in February.

In 2014, Martin appeared in 13 games and recorded six tackles and a forced fumble.

Aaron Wilon of the National Football Post reports that the NFL has lifted LeGarrette Blount‘s suspension and given the Patriots a roster exemption for running back that expires Saturday.

Blount received a one-game suspension for violating the league’s Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

The suspension stems from his arrest before the start of the 2014 season when he was playing for the Steelers.

Blount, 28, signed a two-year, $1.73 million contract with the Patriots after he was cut mid-season by the Steelers. He still has one year remaining on the agreement and stands to make a base salary of $750,000 for the 2015 season.

In 2014, Blount appeared in all 16 games for the Steelers and Patriots last year and ran for 547 yards on 125 carries (4.4 YPC) to go along with five touchdowns. He also contributed 10 receptions for 54 yards receiving.
