Patriots Release CB Chimdi Chekwa

Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that the Patriots have have released CB Chimdi Chekwa on Monday.

New England signed Chekwa to a one-year contract back in March. However, it appears they prefer to completely overhaul the cornerback position this summer, as Chekwa becomes the latest corner to be cut loose in the past month.

Chekwa, 26, was taken in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He was waived at the start of the 2012 season and later signed to the team’s practice squad.

Last year, appeared in 10 games for the Raiders last year and recorded 16 tackles and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing just 89 total snaps in 2014.
