Patriots Releasing LB Darius Fleming

Patriots LB Darius Fleming announced via his Instagram account that the team informed him of his release.

“I want to thank the Kraft family, my coaches, the Patriots organization and the fans for the amazing opportunity during the past two years in New England,” Fleming said in a statement. “I wish the organization nothing but the best going forward.

Fleming, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the 49ers back in 2012. He spent close to two years in San Francisco before he was waived after the 2014 draft. The Patriots later signed him to a contract and has been on and off of their practice squad since.

He was set to make a base salary of $675,000 for the 2016 season. The Patriots will pick up $695,000 in cap space with this move, according to OverTheCap.com.

In 2015, Fleming appeared in six games and recorded four tackles for the Patriots.
