The New England Patriots officially released QB Taylor Heinicke and G Jason King from their practice squad on Monday and signed DB Alex Carter and G Cole Toner to the unit.
The Patriots’ practice squad now consists of:
- OL James Ferentz (Exception)
- DL Geno Grissom (Exception)
- WR Cody Hollister
- DB David Jones
- DB Damarius Travis
- DE Angelo Blackson (Exception)
- CB Ryan Lewis
- DB Jomal Wiltz
- DB Alex Carter
- G Cole Toner
Heinicke, 24, wound up signing on with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Old Dominion back in May of 2015. He managed to make the 53-man roster during his rookie season but wasn’t active for a single game.
The Vikings wound up placing him on the non-football injury list at the start of the 2016 season with an ankle injury, but brought him back in November.
Unfortunately, the Vikings elected to waive Heinicke with an injury designation coming out of the preseason and he later reverted to their injured reserve list. Minnesota waived him with an injury settlement a few weeks ago and he later signed on to the Patriots’ practice squad.
Heinicke has yet to appear in an NFL game.
