Patriots Release TE Michael Williams

The New England Patriots announced that they’ve released veteran TE Michael Williams on Friday.

Williams, 26, is a former seventh-round pick of the Lions back in 2013. After two years in Detroit, the Lions traded him to the Patriots at the start of the 2015 season for a future seventh-round pick.

Williams was in the final year of his contract when he suffered torn ACL last summer and was subsequently placed on injured reserve. The Patriots re-signed him to a contract this past March.

In 2015, Williams appeared in 15 games and recorded three receptions for 26 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
