Patriots Release Veteran LB David Harris

The New England Patriots officially released veteran LB David Harris on Monday.

This comes less than a week after Harris announced his retirement from the NFL.

Harris, 34, is a former second-round pick of the Jets back in 2007. He was in the final year of his three-year, $21.5 million contract that included $15 million guaranteed when the Jets decided to release him last year.

The Patriots later signed Harris to a two-year, $5 million contract that included $1.25 million guaranteed. He was set to make a base salary $1.75 million for the 2018 season.

For his career, Harris recorded 723 tackles, 36.5 sacks, six interceptions, 10 forced fumbles, four recoveries, one defensive touchdown and 31 pass defenses over the course of 11 seasons for the Jets and Patriots.
