Patriots Restructure LB Jerod Mayo’s Contract

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that the Patriots are finalizing a restructured contract for LB Jerod Mayo that will keep in New England.

  • Aaron Wilson has the full break down of Mayo’s three-year extension.
  • The contract includes $4.5 million guaranteed, a $3 million signing bonus, and $1.8 million in incentives if he makes the Pro Bowl and reaches play-time requirements.
  • In 2016, Mayo has a $11.4 million cap figure to go along with a $3.25 million base salary and a $4 million roster bonus. (Aaron Wilson)
  • In 2017, Mayo has a $6.75 million base salary to go along with a $2 million roster bonus if his option is exercised. (Aaron Wilson)
  • Mayo has $500,000 in total per-game roster bonuses in 2016 and 2017, plus $300,000 in Pro Bowl incentives and $250,000 in workout incentives. (Aaron Wilson)

Last year, Mayo unfortunately went down with a torn patella tendon during an October game against the Buffalo Bills.

Since then, there has been some question about his future with the Patriots, but it appears as though he’ll remain with the team for at least the 2015 season.

Mayo, 29, still had another three year remaining on his seven-year, $49.85 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed. He would have made base salaries of $6.25 million (2015), $7.25 million (2016), and $8.75 million (2017) over the remainder of the contract.

In 2014, recorded 53 tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery over the course of six games.
