Patriots Rumors: Matt Light, Brandon Spikes, Marcus Cannon

Matt Light

The Boston Herald writes that the “expectation” is that Patriots OT Matt Light will not be back with the team next season and is reportedly considering retirement following the team’s Super Bowl loss.

Last year, Light didn’t find a whole lot of interest on the open market before he re-signed with the Patriots. New England has young talent at the position in Nate Solder and Marcus Cannon so it’s not as though he would be leaving them in a precarious spot by hanging it up.

It’s worth noting that Light put together a very solid season for the Patriots and was ranked by Pro Football Focus as the #16 best tackle last season.

Brandon Spikes

Patriots ILB Brandon Spikes tweets that he’s undergoing surgery today but didn’t mention what it was for.

Surgery this am!!!! Y’all pray 4 me please.”

The Boston Herald suggests that it could be a simple “knee cleanup” as Spikes has dealt with an MCL sprain in recent years.

Marcus Cannon

The Boston Herald reports the Patriots will use Marcus Cannon tackle next season.

Cannon has shown some versatility by playing both guard and tackle but the Patriots reportedly live his size and expect to see him compete with Nate Solder and Sebastian Vollmer for a tackle spot. Cannon is 6-foot-5 and weighs 358 pounds so he could be a real force at the position.
