Patriots Sign RB LeGarrette Blount To A Two-Year Deal

Update:

The Patriots officially announced the signing RB LeGarrette Blount on Thursday as well as the release of DL Casey Walker.

Josina Anderson of ESPN first reported that RB LeGarrette Blount was at the Patriots’ facility on Thursday and was signing a contract with the team.

  • According to Mike Reiss, the Patriots will release DL Casey Walker to make room for Blount.
  • Jeff Howe reports that Blount will receive a two-year worth up to $2.35 million and includes a prorated minimum this year and up to $1.6 million with incentives for the 2015 season.

Blount wound up going unclaimed off of waivers, but there was reportedly a decent amount of interest. It’s somewhat surprising to see the Patriots jump on Blount given that he’s a similar type of running back to Jonas Gray, how just scored four touchdowns in their Week 11 game.

The Steelers cut Blount loose after he reportedly left the field and headed to the locker room before Monday night’s game had concluded after he didn’t receive a single carry against the Titans. One Steelers’ player said that they should have left Blount in Tennessee last night.

Blount, 27, signed a two-year, $3.85 million contract with the Steelers back in March. This season, Blount has ran for 266 yards on 65 carries (4.1 YPC) and caught six passes for 36 yards receiving to go along with two total touchdowns.
