Patriots Sign Second-Round Pick QB Jimmy Garoppolo

The Patriots announced the signing of second-round pick QB Jimmy Garoppolo on Monday.

New England now has all but one of their 2014 draft picks under contract with first-round selection DT Dominique Easley being the last remaining player.

Garoppolo’s four-year contract is worth an estimated $3,483,898 and includes a signing bonus of $853,744, according to OverTheCap.com.

Garoppolo threw for a staggering 5,050 yards to go along with 53 touchdowns against only 9 interceptions as a senior in Eastern Illinois’s pass-happy offense.

He obviously provides long-term insurance at the quarterback position as Ryan Mallett is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Garoppolo could eventually develop into a long-term replacement for Tom Brady, but we’ll have to see how things go in his first few years in the league before declaring this any amount of certainty
