Patriots Sign Veteran QB Matt Flynn

Dianna Marie Russini reports that the Patriots have reached an agreement with former Packers QB Matt Flynn.

This comes after Shalise Manza Young’s report that New England waived QB Garrett Gilbert on Thursday.

Flynn, 29, hadn’t found any reported interest on the open market before this, but the market for backup quarterbacks is fairly limited, so it makes sense that he would at least get a call.

Obviously, the Patriots could be without Tom Brady for as many as four games following his suspension for his role in DeflateGate.

New England has been preparing Jimmy Garoppolo to handle the starting role, but they might prefer a more experienced backup option than someone like Gilbert.

In 2014, Flynn appeared in seven games and threw for 66 yards while completing 50 percent of his passes to go along with no touchdowns and an interception in garbage time for the Packers.
