Patriots Sign WR Tony Washington

The New England Patriots announced that they’ve signed WR Tony Washington to a contract on Thursday.

This move comes just a few days after Andrew Hawkins announced that he’s retiring from the NFL, so it appears as though the Patriots wanted to bring in another receiver for training camp.

Washington, 26, wound up signing on with the Colts as an undrafted free agent out of Appalachian State back in May 2014. He lasted just a few months with the Colts before signing on to the Jaguars’ practice squad during the 2014 season.

The Jaguars waived Washington with an injury designation during the preseason last year and he later reverted tot their injured reserve list after clearing waivers. Jacksonville signed him to their practice squad and later called him up before cutting him loose shortly after this year’s draft.

In 2016, Washington appeared in two games and caught one pass for nine yards and no touchdowns.
