Ben Volin reports that the Patriots have traded a draft pick to the Lions in return for OT Michael Williams.

  • Field Yates reports that the Patriots are sending a future seventh-round pick to the Lions.

It would not be surprising to hear that this pick is conditional, seeing as the Patriots have made a number of similar trades in the past.

New England could really use some offensive line depth, but it would probably be a mistake to assume Williams is going to be on their 53-man roster at this point in time.

Williams, 24, is a former seventh-round pick of the Lions back in 2013. He wound up making the 53-man roster during his rookie, but was later placed on waivers the following year. Detroit wound up bringing him back on a one-year contract this past January.

Williams has yet to appear in an NFL game.
