Patriots Trade For RB LeGarrette Blount

Tom Curran reports that the New England Patriots have acquired RB LeGarrette Blount from the Buccaneers for RB Jeff Demps and a seventh-round pick.

There have been rumors circulating that Blount could be available dating back to last year’s trade deadline, but it’s at least somewhat surprising that Tampa Bay was able to find a trade partner for guy who hasn’t been able to very productive in recent years. In fact, many around the league have criticized his inability to develop into even a part-time player.

Blount will almost certainly have to compete for a roster spot in training camp, as the Patriots have plenty of running backs competing for jobs.

Previous reports indicated that Demps may not focus on football and instead pursue a track career, so this could very well end up being Blount for a seventh-round pick.
