Patriots Waive TE Michael Williams With Injury Designation, Will Head To I.R. If He Clears Waivers

Mike Reiss of ESPN reports that the Patriots officially waived TE Michael Williams with the injury designation on Friday after he suffered a torn ACL a few days ago.

Should Williams clears waivers, he will revert to the Patriots’ injured reserve list.

Williams, 25, is a former seventh-round pick of the Lions back in 2013. After two years in Detroit, the Lions traded him to the Patriots at the start of the 2015 season for a future seventh-round pick.

Williams is in the final year of his contract and stands to make a base salary of $525,000 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Williams appeared in 15 games and recorded three receptions for 26 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
