Patriots Waiving LB Jonathan Freeny

The New England Patriots are placing LB Jonathan Freeny on waivers Wednesday, according to Mark Daniels.

Freeny, 28, originally signed on with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers back in 2011. He spent four years in Miami before signing on with the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent in 2015.

The Patriots signed him to a two-year contract extension coming out of the preseason last year but elected to cut him loose on Saturday as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players.

The Ravens signed him to a contract but was recently cut loose. Freeny signed on with the Jaguars last month but was waived to make room for DT Marcell Dareus, who was acquired in a trade with the Bills.

The Patriots just re-signed Freeny last week.

In 2017, Freeny has appeared in four games and recorded four tackles and no sacks for interceptions.
