Patriots Could Be Without WR Danny Amendola (High-Ankle Sprain) Until Playoffs

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Patriots WR Danny Amendola suffered a high-ankle sprain during their Week 13 win over the Rams.

  • According to Rapoport, the plan as of now is to make sure Amendola is ready for the playoffs, which implies the Patriots are likely to finish the regular season without him.

After the game, Kimberly Jones reported that Amendola was seen leaving the Patriots locker room on crutches with a boot on his right foot, so it was clear that this could be a serious injury.

Doug Kyed of NESN takes a look at some short-term replacements for Amendola that the Patriots could consider in the coming days.

Kyed’s list includes Keshawn Martin, Aaron Dobson, Nate Washington, Damaris Johnson, Kenbrell Thompkins, Devin Lucien, DeAndrew White, and Devin Street as players worth keeping an eye on as potential additions.

Amendola, 31, is currently in the first year of his two-year, $7.35 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $1.25 million for the 2016 and another $6 million in 2017.

In 2016, Amendola has appeared in 12 games and caught 23 passes for 243 yards receiving and four touchdowns for the Patriots. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 67 receiver out of 117 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Amendola’s return as the news is available.
