Patriots Worked Out Group Of Specialists Including Punters Spencer Lanning & Drew Butler

Mike Reiss of ESPN reports that the Patriots brought in a group of kickers, punters and long snappers for workouts early last week including P Spencer Lanning, P Drew Butler, K Adam Griffith and LS Cole Mazza.

Reiss mentions that the Patriots are probably looking to get their emergency list of available players updated.

Butler, 28, originally signed on with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia back in 2012. Since then, Butler has played for the Bears and Lions before catching on with the Cardinals as a free agent at the start of the 2014 season.

The Cardinals brought Butler back on an exclusive rights contract but was later waived with an injury settlement. Arizona re-signed him once again back in November of last year only to cut him loose a month later.

In 2016, Butler has appeared in seven games and totaled 1,140 punt yards on 32 attempts and no touchbacks.

Lanning, 29, originally signed on with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2011. He spent just a few months in Chicago before he was waived at the start of the 2011 season.

Since then, Lanning has played for the Jaguars, Jets, Browns, Buccaneers, Broncos and most recently for the Bears during the 2015 season.

In 2015, Lanning appeared in one game for Chicago and totaled three punts for 107 yards and no touchbacks.
