Patriots Worked Out Four Players Including DE John Simon

According to Mike Reiss, the Patriots worked out four players on Tuesday including DT Michael Bennett, DE Ryan Delaire, DE John Simon, and LB Azeem Victor.

Simon, 27, is a former fourth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2013. He spent just over a year in Baltimore before he was waived at the start of the 2014 season and later signed on to the Ravens’ practice squad.

After Simon played out the 2016 season under a low-round restricted tender, the Colts signed him to a three-year, $14 million contract last year only to cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

In 2017, Simon appeared in nine games for the Colts and recorded 43 tackles, three sacks, an interception returned for a touchdown, and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 55 edge rusher out of 115 qualifying players.

Delaire, 26, originally signed on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of back in May of 2015. He lasted just a few months with the Buccaneers before he was waived coming out of the preseason and later signed to the Redskins’ practice squad.

The Panthers signed him to their active roster a few weeks into the 2015 season and he finished out the year in Carolina. Unfortunately, the Panthers waived Delaire in July of last year and wound up missing the entire 2017 season.

The Colts signed him to a contract last month but was among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason.

In 2016, Delaire appeared in six games for the Panthers and recorded three tackles, one sack and a pass defense.
