Patriots Worked Out 8 Players Including K Garrett Hartley

Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston reports that the Patriots brought in eight players for workouts on Monday including former Saints K Garrett Hartley.

  • The other players who worked out for New England include: TE Cameron Clear, P Will Johnson, DB Garry Peters, K Matt Wile, LS Christian Young, P Cody Mandell, and LS Tyler Ott.

Reiss notes that the Patriots tend to bring players in for workouts with intention of keeping their emergency lists updated in case they need someone.

Hartley, 28, had spent five seasons with the Saints before he was released in December of last year. The Browns signed him to a contract at the end of the 2014 season, but elected to release him shortly after the draft.

The Steelers wound up signing him to a contract after K Shaun Suisham sustained a season-ending knee injury back in August. However, he was later placed on season-ending injured reserve before being released with a settlement a few weeks ago.

Last year, Hartley appeared in two games and converted all three of his field goal attempts and his two extra point tries.
