Patriots Worked Out RBs Robert Turbin & Pierre Thomas

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Patriots brought in free agent RBs Robert Turbin and Pierre Thomas for workouts on Thursday.

New England is continuously bringing in available players for workout, but with the loss of Dion Lewis for the season, it would not be surprising to see them sign someone if their running game struggles this weekend.

Turbin, 25, is in the final year of his four-year, $2,556,456 rookie contract that included a $456,456 signing bonus. He stands to make a base salary of $660,000 for the 2015 season.

He was waived by the Seahawks a few months ago, but Cleveland elected to claim him off of waivers. However, his time with the Browns wound up being disappointing as he fumbled twice in their Week 8 game, which led to him being waived earlier in the week.

This season, Turbin has appeared in three games and ran for 60 yards on 18 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with two receptions for eight yards receiving.

Thomas, 30, was just signed to a contract with the 49ers last week, but was cut just a few days later to make room for RB Travaris Cadet.

In 2014, Thomas ran for 222 yards on 45 carries (4.9 YPC) to go along with 45 receptions for 378 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 running back in the league out of 57 qualifying players.
