Patriots Worked Out Veteran CB Cortland Finnegan

Rand Getlin of NFL Media reports that the Patriots worked out veteran CB Cortland Finnegan on Wednesday.

  • Getlin adds that while the Patriots did not sign him to a contract, Finnegan will be worth monitoring in the coming weeks.

This is the first reported interest in Finnegan since he decided to unretire and pursue another opportunity in the NFL.

Finnegan, 31, is a former seventh round pick of the Titans back in 2006. He spent the first four years of his career with Tennessee before joining the Rams in 2012.

St. Louis cut him after two years and he later caught on with the Dolphins in March of last year. Miami ultimately cut Finnegan loose in a move that freed up $5.475 million in available cap space before the start of free agency.

Last year, he recorded 44 tackles, one forced fumble, a recovery, nine pass defenses and scored a defensive touchdown over the course of 12 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 74 cornerback out of 108 qualifying players.
