Patriots Worked Out Veteran WR Eric Decker

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Patriots brought in free agent WR Eric Decker for a workout on Monday.

This is interesting, considering that Decker mentioned last month during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that he believes the Patriots would be a good fit, given his prior experience with OC Josh McDaniels from their time together in Denver.

I think the Patriots would be a good fit and being drafted by Josh McDaniels in Denver,” Decker said, per Sirius XM NFL Radio. “I talked with New England last year during the free agency process in June. That is always an option that I would definitely love to entertain.”

Decker added that he’s hoping to catch on with a team and have an opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl.

“I took a few visits and talked to some teams,” Decker said. “At this point in my career, I want to go somewhere where I can compete for a Super Bowl and be in a good system and be with a quarterback that my skill set would be an addition to the team.”

Decker previously visited with the Ravens and Raiders this offseason.

Decker, 30, is a former third-round pick of the Broncos back in 2010. He spent four years in Denver before signing a five-year, $36.25 million contract that included $15 million guaranteed with the Jets as a free agent back in 2014.

Decker was set to make base salaries of $7.25 million and $7.5 million over the remaining two years of the agreement when the Jets cut him loose last year.

The Titans to a one-year contract worth up to $5.35 million last June and he’s once again testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

In 2017, Decker appeared in all 16 games for the Titans and caught 54 passes for 563 yards receiving and one touchdown. He also contributed 22 kick return yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 60 receiver out of 116 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
