Paxton Lynch Could Replace Brock Osweiler As Broncos’ Starter In Week 11

Ian Rapoport mentions that Brock Osweiler may have his final audition to keep the Broncos’ starting quarterback job today against the Patriots.

According to Rapoport, if Osweiler goes out and plays well, he will likely keep the job. However, Paxton Lynch is getting healthier and could return as soon as next week.

Denver reportedly removed some plays from their playbook this week that fit Trevor Siemian‘s skillset more than Osweiler’s and they’ve tried to tailor the offense to give Osweiler the best opportunity to succeed this week.

I’m sure the Broncos are actually doing what they can to help Osweiler succeed, but getting a two-game trial against the Eagles and Patriots is tough sledding.

Lynch is still working his way back from a shoulder injury that has kept him sidelined for most of the season, but he’s been getting closer and closer to returning, so it won’t be surprising to see him under center in the coming weeks.

Lynch, 23, was taken with the No. 26 overall pick after the Broncos traded up from No. 31 overall to get him in last year’s draft. Lynch signed a four-year, $9.4 million contract that includes $7.88 guaranteed and is set to make base salaries of $880,741 and $1.31 million over the next two years.

The contract also includes a fifth-year option to pick up in 2019.

In 2016, Lynch completed 49-of-83passes (59 percent) for 497 yards to go along with two touchdowns and an interception for the Broncos over the course of three games.

We’ll have more regarding the Broncos as the news is available.
