Vikings WR Percy Harvin Plans To Attend Vikings Training Camp

Percy Harvin addressed the reports that he recently asked to be traded by mentioning that he’ll be attending the team’s upcoming training camp.

“I’m really clueless on the crazy reports,” tweets Harvin. “Had a great (practice) today … To all my real fans and real Vikes fans see u at Mankato.”

The reports were from some of the most connected writers to the Vikings organization, so I doubt that they were just made up. Harvin appears to be in damage control now that he’s discussed things with the team. Typically, requesting a trade and threatening a holdout seems to create a fairly sizable distraction.

Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier mentioned that Percy Harvin will be back at practice on Thursday, despite the fact that he recently requested a trade out of Minnesota, per Kevin Seifert.

Harvin wound up skipping the team’s minicamp workout on Wednesday and despite threatening to hold of of training camp, appears to be ready to get back to practice. The entire situation has seemed pretty strange, from the timing of his trade request to the reports of him being unhappy about something unrelated to his contract.

Vikings GM Rick Spielman addressed the reports that WR Percy Havin requested a trade out of Minnesota by saying that they have “no interest” in trading the receiver, per Tom Pelissero.

Spielman wouldn’t discuss the issue beyond that.

Jon Krawczynski reports that Vikings WR Percy Harvin has requested to be traded out of Minnesota.

Harvin apparently isn’t considered about his contract, but feels that it’s time to move on.

Tom Pelissero reports that the Vikings are reluctant to commit to him in the long run because of concerns related to his ability to stay healthy.

The Vikings already have very few weapons on the offensive side of the ball and Adrian Peterson is coming off of a pretty serious knee injury, so I’m sure that the Vikings are reluctant to give into his trade demands at this point. Harvin’s under contract for another two years at a very reasonable salary. There have been some incidents in the past between Harvin and the team’s coaching staff, but it’s still surprising to see things come to this.

Ian Papoport of NFL.com tweets that the issues do not appear to be related to Harvin’s contract as Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier added that Harvins concerns should be addressed before the start of training camp.

According to Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Vikings WR Percy Harvin told reporters that he’s “not happy with a couple situations,” and strongly suggested that he’s considering skipping the team’s upcoming training camp.

Scoggins adds that Harvin mentioned that his situation must be addressed before he reports to training camp.

This sounds like a pretty clear indication that Harvin is concerned about his current contract with the team. As of now, Harvin is set to make $915,000 for the 2012 season with another $1.55 million being paid to him next year.

There’s no question that he’s a valuable component to the Vikings offense, especially now that Adrian Peterson is coming off of a very serious knee injury. It will certainly be interesting to see how the Vikings approach this situation in the coming weeks.
