Percy Harvin’s Hip Injury Will Require Surgery, Expected To Miss 3-4 Months

Seahawks WR Percy Harvin tweets that his recent hip injury will unfortunately require surgery.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that he has been informed that Harvin’s surgery could force him to miss 3-4 months.
  • Rapoport adds that Seattle could place Harvin on the PUP list, which would force him to miss the first six games of the season.
  • The IR list with the designation to return could also be an option.
  • Pro Football Talk reports that Harvin will undergo surgery on Thursday and is expected to be back late in the season.

GM John Schneider mentioned that surgery could be a possibility.

“It could be something where he is out practicing within the next (week), or it could be something like coach (Pete) Carroll was talking about where they do advise surgery,” Schneider said, via the Seattle Times.

Harvin, 25, sought a second opinion regarding his injury, but this is clearly not what either party was hoping for.

Not to say trading for Harvin was a mistake, but the Seahawks did part with a lot of value in return him. Seattle also handed Harvin a six-year deal worth $67 million that includes $25.5 million guaranteed.

Sidney Rice is reportedly in Switzerland “getting some sort of knee treatment,” according to Liz Mathews, so there is going to be some pressure on Golden Tate to perform in the early part of the season. This is purely speculation on my part, but Brandon Lloyd is still available if they’re interested in adding some additional help at receiver.
