Pernell McPhee Plans To Sign With Redskins

According to Jordan Schultz, veteran OLB Pernell McPhee has informed the Falcons that he plans to sign with the Redskins. Schultz does, however, add that it’s “not a certainty that the edge rusher will head to Washington, but it certainly looks that way.”

The Redskins and Falcons have been the two teams that have shown the most interest in McPhee up to this point, so it doesn’t come as a big surprise to hear that he’s ready to decide between the two.

It’s worth mentioning that signing McPhee to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

McPhee, 29, is a former fifth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2011. He spent four years in Baltimore before signing a five-year, $38.75 million contract that included $15.5 million guaranteed back in 2015.

McPhee was set to make base salaries of $7.2 million and $7.625 million over the next two years when the Bears released him this offseason in a move that freed up $7,075,000 of available cap space.

In 2017, McPhee appeared in 13 games for the Bears and recorded 21 tackles, four sacks, a forced fumble and two pass defenses.
