Buccaneers Sign RB Peyton Hillis

Update:

Ian Rapoport reports that the Buccaneers have reached an agreement with free agent RB Peyton Hillis on a one-year deal.

  • Jason La Canfora reports that Hillis’ deal is for the veteran’s minimum.
  • Adam Caplan reports that the Buccaners have waived RB Matt Brown to make room for Hillis.

Hillis, 27, signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs last year, but wound up seeing very little playing time. He finished the year with 85 carries for 309 yards and a single touchdown.

Even with the addition of Hillis, Doug Martin figures to be the team’s featured running back again this season.

Jenna Laine of Sports Talk Florida reports that the Buccaneers will bring in free agent RB Peyton Hillis for a workout on Tuesday.

Hillis, 27, signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs last year, but wound up seeing very little playing time. He finished the year with 85 carries for 309 yards and a single touchdown.

There has been almost no buzz surrounding Hillis this offseason. Although, there was a rumor that the Packers could be an option for him during the early part of free agency, but that idea was quickly put to rest.

We will have to see if Hillis is able to convince the Bucs to sign him for training camp.
