Peyton Manning Could Make $58 Million Guaranteed

Andrew Brandt reports that Manning’s 2012 salary of $18 million has no injury protection attached to it. However, Manning will have to pass a physical next March in order to activate another $40 million guaranteed.

Jason La Canfora mentioned that the two sides are currently working on the specific language to determine whether or not Manning’s 2013 and 2014 salaries will be guaranteed if he suffers an injury to a different part of his body. His neck is obviously the biggest concern but there’s always a chance that Manning could suffer a separate injury so it would be wise for the Broncos to try to prevent themselves from being on the hook for $40 million guaranteed.

Either way, this is still an incredible deal for Manning and it really highlights just how much the Broncos wanted to make this happen.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Denver Broncos have reached an agreement with QB Peyton Manning that will pay him $96 million over the course of five-years.

We’re still waiting to hear what the guaranteed figure is because that’s the all important number in a contract and even more so in Mannings deal, given the fact that he’s coning off of four neck surgeries.

The contract will average out to $19.2 million per season which is in line with the deal that he received from Indianapolis last year.  What’s really amazing about this, is that it will surpass Tom Brady‘s contract despite all of the concerns that come with signing him. We’re talking about a 36-year-old quarterback that sat out all of last season because of a serious neck injury. It’s obviously rare to be in a situation where you can sign a guy like Petyon Manning, but Denver has to protect themselves to some degree.

We’ll have more as soon as the information is available.
