Steelers Place WR Plaxico Burress Season-Ending IR

Update:

————

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that WR Plaxico Burress underwent surgery on his rotator cuff Monday and will miss the entire 2013 season.

  • Schefter adds that Burress’ career is possibly over.

If so, Burress would have finished his career with 553 receptions for 8,499 yards receiving, and 64 touchdowns.

Burress, 36, has said that this would most likely be his final season in the NFL, so we’ll have to see if he’s willing to attempt a comeback next season.

The Steelers announced that WR Plaxico Burress suffered a “significant” shoulder injury and will undergo surgery on Monday.

  • Jay Glazer reports that he “believes” Burress tore his rotator cuff in two places.

It’s pretty clear that Burress’ 2013 season is already over. We’ll have to see if he’s willing to give it another shot next year or if he’s prepared to hang up his cleats.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Steelers WR Plaxico Burress has tore his rotator cuff during Thursday’s practice and could be out for the entire 2013 season.

  • Mike Garafolo adds that Burress informed him that this would likely be his last season in the NFL, no matter what.

Burress, 36, signed a one-year deal worth $940,000 with the Steelers back in March and figured to be a red zone target for Ben Roethlisberger.

Pittsburgh allowed Mike Wallace to depart during free agency, so they need guys like Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, Jerricho Cotchery and third-round pick Markus Wheaton to step up this season. It’s worth noting that TE Heath Miller is coming back from a completely rebuilt knee.

We’ll have more as the news is available.
