Plaxico Burress Not An Option For The Steelers

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert dismissed any speculation that they could be targeting free agent WR Plaxico Burress.

“Yeah, not really,” said Colbert when asked about their interest in pursuing Burress, via CBS Pittsburgh.

Colbert added that a more likely scenario would be that they target receiver following the final round of roster final cuts before the start of the season. This tends to be the case at this time of year, the Seattle Seahawks aside.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette tweets that one of the main reasons why free agent WR Plaxico Burress has yet to sign with a team is because he wants “too much money.”

Bouchette specifically mentions that the Steelers could use some additional help at the receiver position now that Mike Wallace is unlikely to report to the team at any point in the near future. Bouchette adds that Burress owes a sizable debt to the city of New York for back taxes, $59,241 to be precise, but he could still pay that off while making the veteran’s minimum.

Both Randy Moss and Terrell Owens have found work, as surprising as that is, so I’m sure that at least one team would be interested in his services, as long as he’s willing to drop his asking price.
