Police Drop All Charges Against Former Cowboys WR Lucky Whitehead, Had Wrong Guy

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that all charges were dropped against former Cowboys WR Lucky Whitehead and the warrant for his arrest was rescinded.

  • According to Rapoport, police had mistakenly identified Whitehead as the person who committed petit larceny in Virgina last month.
  • Despite being cleared of any wrong doing, a Cowboys’ source tells Josina Anderson that they’ve “moved on” from Whitehead.

Dave Rich, the agent for Whitehead, tells TMZ Sports that they’re “thrilled” this matter has been resolved, but it’s shame it resulted in his client being released.

“Lucky is thrilled justice was served and his name was cleared,” Rich said. “It’s a shame that he came into town to do a camp for kids and he ended up getting cut by his professional football team.”

Last night Rich told Adam Schefter yesterday that his client wasn’t in Virginia at the time of the alleged incident. Schefter mentions that fight records show that Whitehead was in Dallas at the time of the incident and his direct flight to Washington D.C. landed at 11:30 am, which is 10 hours after the shoplifting crime occurred in Woodbridge, Va.

Rich told the Cowboys Whitehead didn’t appear in court because he never received the citation and summons. The reason he never got a citation and summons is because he wasn’t in the state when the crime occurred.

The Cowboys elected to cut Whitehead loose before the matter was resolved and cited a number of issues that led to him being cut.

Whitehead, 25, signed on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic back in 2015. He’s currently in the final year of his three-year, $1.585 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $615,000 for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Whitehead appeared in 15 games and caught three passes for 48 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He also rushed for 82 yards on 10 carries to go along with 394 kick return yards and 195 punt return yards.
