Police Report For Aqib Talib Shooting Says He Was Shot By An Unknown Suspect, No Mention Of Shooting Himself

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media has obtained the full incident report from the situation involving Broncos CB Aqib Talib from a few weeks ago.

According to Rapoport, Talib told a Dallas police officer he did not know who shot him. A witness told police only that he “heard a single gunshot.”

The report mentions an “unknown suspect shot the complainant” and makes no mention of him shooting himself or having the gun, per Rapoport.

Several weeks ago, Rapoport reported that the “working hypothesis” from many parties investigating the shooting involving Talib was that he accidentally shot himself. Beyond that, there were still a number questions about what really took place that night.

Talib could face discipline from the NFL for the matter, considering that Talib has a history with the off-the-field incidents involving guns.

There could also be legal issues in play for Talib. A new Texas’ law requires a person to have a license to carry a gun, and carrying a weapon in public without a license into a place that sells alcohol is considered a Class 3 felony.

It’s also considered a Class A misdemeanor to possess a weapon while intoxicated in Texas, and punishment carries a year in jail. A Class B misdemeanor to discharge a weapon in public could result in six months in jail.

The bullet that hit Talib entered through the rear of Talib’s right thigh and exited out his right calf. Although, the expectation is that Talib should return either during training camp or the week of their first preseason game.

Talib was released from the hospital a day later.

Talib, 30, is in the third year of his six-year, $57 million contract that includes $26 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $8.5 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Talib appeared 15 games for the Broncos and recorded 45 tackles, three interceptions with two of them bring returned for touchdowns, and 14 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 28 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.
