Possible Destinations For Kevin Kolb

The latest report regarding a possible Kevin Kolb trade comes from Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer who reports that Kolb will not request a trade from the Eagles despite his recent benching.

This news hasn’t stopped the rampant speculation circulating throughout the rumor mill about the possible destinations for Kolb.

Minnesota Vikings:

ESPN’s Matt Mosley writes that the Minnesota Vikings could look at acquiring Kolb to ensure that they have a solid option after Brett Favre retires. The Vikings plan on going with Tarvaris Jackson once Favre calls it a career but Kolb has a higher ceiling than Jackson and could blossom into a solid starter in the right situation.

Arizona Cardinals:

The Arizona Cardinals have been dealing with a number of quarterback related problems and could be looking for an upgrade to Derek Anderson if his struggles continue. Max Hall was drafted this year as a future option for the team but he hasn’t should much promise so far.

Buffalo Bills:

There isn’t any team that has as bad of a quarterback situation as the Buffalo Bills currently have. Chan Gailey has already decided to go with Ryan Fitzpatrick as the teams starting quarterback and bench Trent Edwards. The Bills haven’t been able to get anything going while Edwards was under center so Gailey will look to Fitzpatrick for an offensive spark.

The Bills have already tried this move last season and it did very little to upgrade their quarterback play. Many thought that the Bills would target a quarterback in the draft but that was not the case. Kolb would be a good option talent wise but the Bills are a bad situation for any quarterback until they get more talent to surround him with.

Cleveland Browns:

Early reports suggested that the Cleveland Browns contacted the Eagles the same night that they announced that they were going to start Michael Vick but this report has already been refuted by the Browns front office. One interesting note to consider is that the current Browns and former Eagles GM Tom Heckert actually drafted Kolb.

Colt McCoy was drafted by the Browns this year but has played pretty poorly so far. The may have to start Seneca Wallace for the second straight week because of Jake Delhomme high ankle sprain. Neither of Delhomme or Wallace is viewed as the teams long-term option so they will remain a possible suitor for Kolb.

Oakland Raiders:

The recent benching of Jason Campbell is an obvious sign that the teams isn’t certain about his ability to become the teams long-term quarterback option. While Bruce Gradkowski will be the teams starting quarterback for the near future, the team will have to explore an alternative option during the offseason.

Kevin Kolb value is derived from the fact that he has the potential to become a solid starting quarterback in the NFL. All of the teams that have been mentioned will be looking for a long-term quarterback as opposed to fill-in options. The Eagles should be able to get a third of fourth-round pick for Kolb considering that the Raiders sent a fourth-round pick to Redskins for Jason Campbell during the offseason. Kolb’s value will likely fluctuate depending on the number of suitors as well as his recover from his recent concussion.
