Potential Free Agent Targets For Redskins

Mike Jones of the Washington Post offered some potential free agent targets for the Redskins this offseason in his recent mailbag.

According to Jones, upgrading the secondary should be at the top their list. Jones lists Patriots CB Aqib TalibBroncos CB Dominique Rodgers-CromartieBills FS Jairus Byrd, and Browns FS T.J. Ward as some of the options the team could consider once free agency rolls around in March.

  • Jones specifically mentions that Talib could be the guy to watch given that Washington pursued him as a free agent last year and their DBs coach Raheem Morris spent time with him in Tampa Bay.
  • Jones also mentions that the Redskins would like re-sign veteran CB DeAngelo Hall who will be an unrestricted free agent.

As for other areas where the Redskins could look for upgrades, Jones writes that offensive line and wide receiver are both positions that could use some additional depth.

Clearly, there are a lot of names being tossed out, but the Redskins are projected to have over $27 million in available cap space, according to Overthecap.com. Some of these players could end up being bargains, which means Washington could try to target a big name in the secondary like Talib or one of the two top safeties, and then shop around for modestly priced receivers and offensive linemen.

James Jones and Michael Oher seem like prime candidates for reasonably priced contracts if the Redskins elect to go this route.
