Veteran S Danieal Manning Could Be An Option For The Cowboys?

Update:

Ian Rapoport mentions that recently released S Danieal Manning has always wanted to play for the Cowboys after growing up in the Dallas area.

Todd Archer mentioned that the Cowboys could be in the market for a safety, but probably couldn’t offer much in terms of 2014 salary.

Manning, 31, suffered a hairline fracture of his right fibula and was limited to appearing in just six games last season. In 2012, he appeared in all 16 games for the Texans and totaled 77 tackles, a sack, two interceptions three forced fumbles and a recovery.

Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas takes a look at some of the free agent options that could make sense for the Cowboys at this point in the offseason.

As of Monday, Dallas has a little over $5.9 million in available cap space to work, and a portion of that will be needed to sign their 2014 free agent class, so goes without saying that they will need to be frugal with their spending moving forward.

Archer believes the Cowboys should consider upgrades at safety, defensive end, interior offensive line and/or wide receiver.

Some of the more notable players mentioned by Archer include: S Thomas DeCoud, S Steve Gregory, DE Anthony Spencer, DE Robert Ayers, C Kyle Cook, C Fernando Velasco, WR Earl Bennett, WR Nate Burleson, and WR Jason Avant.

The Cowboys have been mentioned as being an option for Spencer, Ayers and Burelson in recent weeks. However, Dallas has already spent money on the defensive end position and there could end up being decent value in the draft at the position.

The receiver class is considered by many to be extremely deep as well, so it might make more sense for them to target an upgrade at offensive line or safety in free agency.
