Potential Roster Moves For The Cowboys

According to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com, the Cowboys will restructure cornerback Brandon Carr‘s contract.

By agreeing to restructure his deal, Carr will save the Cowboys about $10.5 million towards their 2013 salary cap. Carr is due a fully guaranteed $14.3 million in base salary in 2013, along with a $2 million signing bonus.

The Cowboys were stuck between a rock and a hard place in terms of cap space. In addition to restructuring Carr’s deal, it’s likely that they’ll ask other players like DeMarcus Ware and Jason Witten to restructure theirs as well, which could create an additional $6.5 million in cap space.

Archer lists OT Doug Free, ILB Dan Connor, DT Jay Ratliff, DL Marcus Spears, and FB Lawrence Vickers as candidates for pay cuts or possible even being released.

The big decision looming for Dallas is regarding Tony Romo and his $16.8 million cap figure. A long-term deal would reduce that figure considerably and they have maintained all along that they see Romo as a part of their future.
