Potential Trade Candidates: Matt Forte, Vernon Davis, Roddy White

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media offers his take on a few speculative trade candidates to watch over the next week and a half, and whether they could be moved before the upcoming deadline.

Matt Forte

According to Rapoport, Chicago is willing to listen to offers for a number of players, but it sounds like Matt Forte‘s salary and age could be prohibitive.

“It’s clear this is a rebuilding year for the Bears with a new regime,” said Rapoport. “They are open, I am told, to trading really a lot of their key parts, mainly because they would like draft picks. At this point nothing is expected from Forte, because of his age, because of his salary.”

Forte, 29, is in the final year of his four-year, $30.4 million contract that included $13.8 million guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of $6.65 million before testing the open market next year.

This season, Forte has appeared in all three games and ran for 507 yards on 126 carries (4 YPC) to go along with 21 receptions for 191 yards receiving and three total touchdowns.

Vernon Davis

Vernon Davis has come up numerous times over the past few weeks as a trade candidate to keep an eye, but like Forte, Rapoport mentions that his salary is likely impact his overall market.

“Another player due a huge salary, his role really has diminished in this offense with Jim Tomsula taking over as the head coach,” Rapoport said. “It’s unclear what his future is with this team.”

Davis, 31, is in the final year of his six-year, $42.705 million contract that included $23 million guaranteed, and stands to make a base salary of $4.35 million for the 2015 season.

This season, Davis has been limited to appearing in three games and recording eight receptions for 109 yards receiving and no touchdowns for the 49ers.

Roddy White

A few weeks ago, Roddy White expressed frustration with his role in the team’s offense. However, the Falcons have since said that they have no plans to trade him.

“He has openly mused about what his in this offense is, he is too often the third and fourth option for this team,” Rapoport said. “He loves Atlanta, doesn’t want to go anywhere. It doesn’t sound like (the Falcons) are motivated to move him, but will a team change their mind as we get closer to next Tuesday.”

White, 33, is in the second year of his four-year, $30 million contract that included $10 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $2.2 million (2015), $2.75 million (2016), and $3 million (2017) over the next three years.

This season, White has caught just 11 passes for 138 yards receiving and a touchdown for the Falcons over the course of six games.
