Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that the preliminary diagnosis on Broncos first-round pick OLB Shane Ray is that he has an MCL sprain that could keep him out 4-6 weeks.

  • Anderson adds that Ray will still undergo an MRI on his injured knee to make sure his ACL is intact.

Ray was carted off the field during Week 6’s game against the Browns with a right knee injury after he was unfortunately rolled up on from behind during the second quarter. Ray immediately went down clutching his knee in pain, so it appeared as though this could be a very serious injury.

Ray, 22, is in the first year of his four-year, $9.116 million rookie contract that included $8.44 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $435,000 (2015), $849,945 (2016), $1,263,990 (2017), and $1,678,485 (2018) over the remainder of the contract.

Heading into today’s game, Ray had recorded four tackles and two sacks over the course of five games.

We’ll have more regarding Ray’s injury as the news is available.
