QB Geno Smith To Get “70-75%” Of First-Team Quarterback Reps When Camp Opens

New York Jets Offensive Coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said that QB Geno Smith will get “70-75” percent of the first-team repetitions when training camp opens in July, via Seth Walden.

Head Coach Rex Ryan has insisted that there is an open battle at the quarterback position between Smith and QB Michael Vick, but Smith, at the very least, is getting the first shot with the starters.

Vick has been vocal in pointing out that he does not view it as a true position battle, suggesting that the team has already tabbed Smith the starter.  He signed a one-year, $4 million deal with New York back in March.

Vick had some of his best seasons with Mornhinweg, though the reality is that the Jets would likely prefer Smith to win the job considering their investment in the second-year player.

Smith flashed potential last year, but still only completed only 55% of his passes, with 21 interceptions against only twelve touchdowns.

Last season with the Eagles, Vick threw for 1,215 yards in seven games, with five touchdowns and three interceptions.
