Tim Tebow Goes Unclaimed, Now A Free Agent

Update:

Ian Rapoport reports that Tim Tebow has passed through waivers unclaimed.

Tebow, 26, is now a free agent and will be able to sign with a team of his choosing. The only question is whether or not anyone is willing to give him another shot at playing quarterback in the NFL.

Joe Buscaglia of WGR 550 Buffalo reports that the Bills have “zero interest in acquiring” Tim Tebow.

As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk points out, there are a number reasons for the Buffalo Bills to consider claiming QB Tim Tebow off of waivers.

Currently, the Bills have E.J. Manuel and Jeff Tuel as their signal callers, now that Kevin Kolb has been placed on season-ending injured reserve. It wouldn’t be so bad if Manuel had a shot at playing in Week 1, but it now appears as though Buffalo will be forced to start an undrafted rookie against the Patriots.

Florio mentions that Tebow spent the entire training camp with New England, so even if he’s a not a long-term option for them, he could at least help them to prepare the Pats next week.

On top of that, Bills DC Mike Pettine has spoken highly of Tebow in the past.

I coached against him with the Jets when he was at Denver, and he beat us on a two-minute drive,” Pettine told Tim Graham of the Buffalo News. “And then I went against him in practice.

“He’s a unique athlete, not the most orthodox NFL quarterback, but he finds a way to get it done.  Those guys that are changeup types are the ones that give you some trouble.

Jason La Canfora mentions that former Jets QB Greg McElroy could also be an option for the Bills.
