Raiders An Option For Cedric Benson?

According to ESPN’s John Clayton, Cedric Benson is “hoping” to sign with the Oakland Raiders at some point in the near future.

“Benson is hoping to maybe land with the Oakland Raiders,” Clayton said while appearing on Tuesday’s NFL Live. “… There’s an opening there and he’s hoping to fill it.”

The loss of Michael Bush has left Darren McFadden as the team’s featured running back which is somewhat of a troubling thought considering his history of injuries. McFadden definitely has the talent to be their workhorse, but it would probably make sense for them to target a better compliment than Taiwan Jones, who figures to be more of a third-down option for them. Signing Benson would only run them the veteran’s minimum and probably just a one-year commitment.

Clayton did add that, Benson has received “no phone calls so far this week,” so this may end up being just a speculative idea on his part.
