Raiders Have CB Trumaine Johnson As No. 1 Free Agent Target?

Sources tell Tony Pauline of DraftAnalyst.com that Rams CB Trumaine Johnson is expected to the Raiders’ No. 1 target in free agency this offseason.

Pauline adds that Johnson will likely have “numerous” suitors in free agency, but the Raiders believe he would be a great fit next to former first-round CB Gareon Conley.

The Rams just agreed to a trade with the Chiefs for CB Marcus Peters, which likely means Johnson will be playing elsewhere at the start of the 2018 season.

There’s no question that the Raiders could use some more help at cornerback and Johnson will be among the best available options. However, it’s likely going to take a large offer to get him under contract long term.

Johnson, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Rams back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract with the Rams before being franchised in back-to-back seasons.

Johnson is once again in position to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2017, Johnson appeared in all 16 games for the Rams and recorded 65 tackles, two interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, a forced fumble, a recovery and 14 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 68 overall cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100  – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
