Raiders Could Be Parting Ways With DT Tommy Kelly

Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Oakland Raiders are considering releasing DT Tommy Kelly.

Kelly, 32, signed a seven-year, $50.125 million contract back in 2008. He has base salaries of $6.5 million in 2013 and another $7 million in 2014. As things stand right now, his 2013 cap number is $4.8 million, so it would make sense for the Raiders to free up some additional cap space by parting with him in the coming days or weeks.

Kelly is coming out of a more than disappointing season in which he recorded 1.5 sacks and graded out as one of the worst defensive tackles in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.

This year’s draft class is loaded with defensive line talent and some NFL insiders believe they could target someone like Utah’s Star Lotulelei or possibly even Florida’s Sharrif Floyd with the No. 3 overall pick.
